The beading is done by Maasai "mamas" working in their home area. By meeting with their designer weekly to receive materials, the artisans can earn a living while maintaining their rural and more traditional lifestyle. Averaging one collar per day, the mamas create these original, one-of-a-kind designs.
About our collar sizing:
8” to 10” collars are ½” wide
11” to 14” collars are ¾” wide
16” to 24” collars are 1” wide
Lurcher style collars are 2” wide in the middle tapering to ¾” at both ends and come in sizes 14” to 22”
Our sizes reflect the measurement from the end of the leather at the buckle end to the center hole at the other end (some manufacturers include the buckle in their measurement but we do not which means your dog may take a smaller size in our line).
Beads are hand sewn in leather anchoring every 4-5 beads back into the leather. A second piece of leather is glued and stitched on the back for comfort and durability. Buckles are solid, hand-cast brass.
Not just a pretty collar – these are made
to be enjoyed. We offer a one-year guarantee with normal wear and tear but the reality is we have customers with collars 4-8 years old..
